The Hammond Tornadoes will take on the L.W. Higgins Hurricanes at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. L.W. Higgins took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Hammond, who comes in off a win.
Hammond will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up ten points two weeks ago, then bounced right back against East St. John on Friday. The Tornadoes blew past the Wildcats 38-7. The Tornadoes not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since September 28, 2024 (when they won 41-6).

Terin Jones and Zalen Bennett were among the main playmakers for Hammond as the former rushed for 77 yards and one touchdown and the latter rushed for 72 yards and one TD on only eight carries. Those 77 rushing yards gave Jones a new career-high. Reginald Monroe was in the mix too, providing Hammond with two scores.
Another reason for the win was Hammond's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for 7.5 sacks. Elontae Beauchamp was especially locked on to East St. John's QB and sacked him 4.5 times. Beauchamp is on a roll when it comes to sacks, as he's now posted two or more in each of the last six games he's played dating back to last season. Hammond got some further help from Trion Wise: he picked up a sack, made 11 total tackles (2.5 for loss), and defended one pass.
Special teams played a big role in the game for Hammond, adding 19 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Monroe, who ran a punt back for a touchdown. Another bright spot was a kickoff return touchdown from him.
Meanwhile, L.W. Higgins was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat dating back to last season. They fell 27-20 to Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy.
L.W. Higgins' loss dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Hammond, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Everything came up roses for Hammond against L.W. Higgins in their previous matchup back in September of 2024, as the squad secured a 41-6 victory. Do the Tornadoes have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Hurricanes turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
