Leake Academy coach No. 3 on all-time wins list.
The
Leake Academy (Madden, Miss.) girls basketball team defeated Jefferson (La.) 56-48 to give Doyle Wolverton his milestone 1,200th victory.
Wolverton is the No. 3 winner in the history of girls basketball and just 17 wins behind No. 2 Jim Smiddy.
However, the 59-year-old coach, who has won 87 percent of his games, has a long way to go to top No. 1 Leta Andrews of Granbury, Texas.
Wolverton told the Jackson Clarion Ledger, "She's at 1,380 and still coaching at 75, so I ain't goin' catch her."

Center Hill (Olive Branch, Miss.) upset Lanier (Jackson, Miss.) 40-36 in overtime to snap a 57-game winning streak. The defending Class 5A state champions ended their season with a 27-1 record.

She is committed to Princeton University, according to the Los Angeles Daily News. San Diego (Calif.) graduate Charde Houston holds the state record with 3,837 points.
