Preview: Mission Bay Buccaneers vs. Clairemont Chieftains
Mission Bay and Clairemont are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2017, but not for long. The Mission Bay Buccaneers will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Clairemont Chieftains at 6:00 p.m. Mission Bay will be strutting in after a victory while Clairemont will be coming in after a loss.
Mission Bay was handed a 26-point defeat in their previous outing, but they didn't let that bad energy affect their game against Kearny on Wednesday. Mission Bay had just enough and edged Kearny out 37-34. The win was just what Mission Bay needed coming off of a 64-38 defeat in their prior match.
Mission Bay can attribute much of their success to Jackie Quiachon, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds, and Audie Caban, who scored seven points along with 21 rebounds and two steals. Quiachon continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Imani Cosby was another key contributor, scoring five points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Clairemont's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They took a serious blow against Madison, falling 63-11. Clairemont was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 40-9.
Mission Bay pushed their record up to 8-16 with that victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Clairemont, their loss dropped their record down to 2-12.
Everything came up roses for Mission Bay against Clairemont when the teams last played on January 5th as the squad secured a 48-8 victory. With Mission Bay ahead 29-4 at the half, the game was all but over already.
