Soccer Game Preview: Milpitas vs. Fremont

Milpitas is 2-8 against Fremont since January of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Milpitas Trojans will square off against the Fremont Firebirds at 6:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Milpitas will bounce into Thursday's game after beating Saratoga, who they had gone 0-7 against in their seven prior meetings. Milpitas put the hurt on Saratoga with a sharp 4-1 win on Tuesday. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Trojans' disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 635th, while the Falcons are ranked 284th).

Jayden Hernandez and Marissa Agraz scored all four of Milpitas' goals, bringing their combined season tally to 13 goals.

Meanwhile, Fremont waltzed into their match on Tuesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. Their defense stepped up to hand the Chargers a 4-0 shutout. Four seems to be a good number for the Firebirds as the team scooped up a win with the same number of goals in their previous game.

Fremont's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-2-1. As for Milpitas, they are also on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-6-1 record this season.

Milpitas came up short against Fremont in their previous meeting on January 9th, falling 3-1. Can Milpitas avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
