Softball Game Preview: Heritage Eagles vs. Chaparral Wolverines

The Heritage Eagles will head out to square off against the Chaparral Wolverines at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. Heritage has given up an average of 9.6 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Rock Canyon hit Heritage with a four-run sixth inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Eagles came up short against the Jaguars, falling 14-2. Having soared to a lofty 15 runs in the game before, the Eagles couldn't push the score so high this time.

Caitlin Chamaty made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Sydney Edwards, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Chaparral gave up the first runs on Friday, but they didn't let that get them down. They had just enough and edged out Castle View 9-8.

Grace Carpenter looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits.

On the hitting side, Keegan Freitas was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in August. The team also got some help courtesy of Evie Smith, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

Chaparral now has a winning record of 10-9. As for Heritage, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-14.

Heritage skirted past Chaparral 6-4 when the teams last played back in October of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
