Softball Recap: Grand Junction Central Takes a Loss

Grand Junction Central extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to six on Thursday, dropping them down to 0-5. They lost 10-2 to the Montrose Red Hawks. The Warriors were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Red Hawks apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in September of 2024.

Sophie Aragon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and eight unearned) runs on ten hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Bryle West made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.

As for Montrose, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-0. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average this season.

On Montrose's side, they also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Bentley Schiller gave up just two earned runs on five hits and racked up eight Ks.

At the plate, Abby Siegel was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. Marlow Monson was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs and two RBI.

Coming up, Grand Junction Central is packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game of the season: they will square off against Palisade at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Montrose, they will face off against Rifle at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Red Hawks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bears have averaged an impressive 11 runs per game this season.
