Basketball Recap: Calaveras Piles Up the Points Against Linden

You're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter, and that's exactly how it played out for Calaveras on Tuesday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that they blew the Linden Lions out of the water with a 69-11 final score. The Red Hawks have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 12 games by 24 points or more this season.

Calaveras' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Mariah Maddock led the charge by going 5-for-11 to rack up 13 points along with seven assists and six rebounds. Those seven assists gave Maddock a new career-high. Kendra Baechler was another key player, going 7-for-10 on her way to 15 points.

Calaveras smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in five consecutive contests.

Calaveras is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 17-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 22.2 points over those games. As for Linden, their defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-13.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Calaveras will venture away from home to square off against Bret Harte at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Bret Harte will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Calaveras surely won't give up without a fight. As for Linden, they will head out to take on Summerville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
