Preview: John Paul II Guardians vs. John Paul II Centurions
The John Paul II Guardians will head out on the road to face off against the John Paul II Centurions at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Guardians are hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
John Paul II pushed their score all the way to 45 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 70-45 walloping at the hands of Geneva.
Despite their loss, John Paul II saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Levi Golla, who threw for 442 yards and five touchdowns, was perhaps the best of all. The team also got some help courtesy of Tayler Rammel, who picked up 177 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
Meanwhile, John Paul II was beaten by Holy Cross 72-6 on Friday. While losing is never fun, John Paul II can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 1165th, while Holy Cross is ranked 529th).
John Paul II's defeat dropped their record down to 2-7. As for John Paul II, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.
The Guardians strolled past the Centurions in their previous matchup back in November of 2022 by a score of 33-17. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Guardians since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
