Football Recap: Vernon Benda's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Jefferson over Hempstead

Jefferson was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They took a 56-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Hempstead Mustangs. The contest was a 28-28 toss-up at halftime, but the Hawks couldn't quite close it out.

Several Hawks players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Vernon Benda, who threw for 310 yards and six touchdowns, and also rushed for 31 yards. Uweza Kalolero was another key back, gaining 211 total yards and two touchdowns.

Jefferson's loss dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Hempstead, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-6.
