Basketball Recap: Madison Wartson Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Woodland

You can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Dixon's strategy against Woodland on Thursday. Everything went the Dixon Rams' way against the Woodland Wolves as the Dixon Rams made off with a 54-29 victory. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 67-31 on January 7th.

Dixon's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Madison Wartson, who went 6 for 10 on her way to 14 points. The dominant performance gave Wartson a new career-high in points. Emily Morris was another key player, putting up four points in addition to eight boards and six assists.

Dixon was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Woodland's loss came despite strong showings from Madilyn Watkins and Mayte Leon Perez. Watkins posted 11 points and six rebounds, while Leon Perez scored ten points and seven boards. That was a full 37.9% of Woodland's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Zoe Byrd, who put up two points and eight rebounds.

Dixon's record now sits at 7-14. As for Woodland, they are on an 11-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-17.

Dixon and Natomas will face off at 7:00 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played. Woodland has already played their next matchup (against Casa Roble), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
