Preview: Portage Mustangs vs. Conemaugh Valley Blue Jays
Portage is 10-0 against Conemaugh Valley since January of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Portage Mustangs will head out on the road to square off against the Conemaugh Valley Blue Jays at 7:15 p.m. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Portage can now show off eight landslide victories after their most recent matchup on Wednesday. They blew past West Shamokin 62-26 at home. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory Portage has posted yet this season.
Portage can attribute much of their success to Ashlyn Hudak, who scored 15 points along with two steals. Jenna Burkett was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with two blocks.
Meanwhile, Conemaugh Valley's 32-game losing streak came to an end on Thursday. They took down Shade 49-32. Conemaugh Valley's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Portage's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.0 points per game. As for Conemaugh Valley, their win ended a 15-game drought on the road and puts them at 1-13.
Everything went Portage's way against Conemaugh Valley when the teams last played back in December of 2023 as Portage made off with a 54-28 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Portage since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
