Basketball Recap: Kern Valley Takes a Loss

After flying high against California City on Friday, Kern Valley came back down to earth. The Kern Valley Broncs took a 54-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Central Valley Christian Cavaliers on Saturday. The Broncs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cavaliers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2017.

Despite the loss, Kern Valley still got an impressive performance from Jayda Bushling, who posted 15 points along with eight boards and eight steals. Another player making a difference was Ava Elliott, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds.

Even though they lost, Kern Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 14 offensive boards in six consecutive contests.

Central Valley Christian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ally Lane led the charge by going 6 of 8 from beyond the arc on her way to 26 points and seven steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Lane has scored at least a third of Central Valley Christian's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kamryn Westra, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 boards.

Kern Valley's loss dropped their record down to 12-3. As for Central Valley Christian, they moved to 9-7 with that win, which also ended their four-game losing streak.

Kern Valley will be playing at home against Bishop Union at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Kern Valley is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.7 points per game this season. As for Central Valley Christian, they will venture away from home to take on Washington Union at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Considering Washington Union has lost four straight at home and Central Valley Christian three straight on the road , this one might come down to who's more desperate to change their momentum.
