Softball Recap: Campbell Gets the Win

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Campbell ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They won by a run and slipped past the Hillgrove Hawks 10-9. For the Spartans, this counts as revenge for the 2-1 win the Hawks walked away with the last time they faced one another back in September of 2024.

Evelyn Herrington spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and five unearned) runs on eight hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Aubrey Headd, who got on base in five of her six plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in hits (three). Maiya Washington was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

Campbell kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 2-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

The victory made it two in a row for Campbell and bumps their season record up to 2-4. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games. As for Hillgrove, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-4.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Campbell will face off against rival Harrison at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Hillgrove is set to square off against their familiar foe McEachern at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
