Basketball Recap: Brynn Begovich Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Hughson

Argonaut's game last Monday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They rang in the new year with a 48-36 victory over the Hughson Huskies. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 37-35 last Saturday.

Argonaut's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Brynn Begovich led the charge by going 5 of 10 on her way to 17 points and six steals. Another player making a difference was Alayna Critchfield, who posted eight points in addition to 12 rebounds and three blocks.

Argonaut smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 14 consecutive matches.

Several Huskies players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Morgan Bleakley, who put up seven points and four steals. Bleakley has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last six times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Grace Leedom, who had three points.

The win got Argonaut back to even at 7-7. As for Hughson, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-11.

Argonaut wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 51-41 victory against El Dorado on the 7th. As for Hughson, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 40-34 loss against Ripon on the 7th.
