Basketball Recap: Pinole Valley Comes Up Short

Pinole Valley lost against Salesian College Preparatory back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Pinole Valley Spartans took a 46-39 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Salesian College Preparatory Pride. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 200th, while the Pride are ranked 74th).

Despite the loss, Pinole Valley still got an impressive performance from Khaya Jackson, who went 8 of 18 en route to 19 points. What's more, Jackson also racked up two steals, the most she's had since back in February of 2024. Dannyae Turner was another key player, putting up ten points.

Salesian College Preparatory's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jamia Sawyer, who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds. Another player making a difference was Vanessa Parilla, who posted 13 points.

Pinole Valley's defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 13-8. As for Salesian College Preparatory, their win bumped their record up to 14-8.

Pinole Valley wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 54-31 victory against St. Patrick-St. Vincent on the 31st. As for Salesian College Preparatory, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 68-50 win against Saint Mary's on the 31st.
