Basketball Recap: Esme Carrillo's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Mammoth over Trona

Mammoth was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They took a 32-25 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Trona Tornadoes. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Huskies this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 48-46 two weeks ago.

Mammoth lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Esme Carrillo, who posted nine points. That was a full 36% of Mammoth's points, marking the third time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points. Julianne Bassler was another key player, putting up six points.

Trona's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Treasure McBath, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 21 boards. McBath is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down 13 or more in the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Samantha Burley, who earned six points and 19 boards.

Mammoth's defeat dropped their record down to 5-15. As for Trona, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 9-5.

Mammoth wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 52-17 loss against Boron on the 31st. Trona has also already played their next contest, a 51-20 win against Baker on the 3rd.
