Football Recap: Longview Lobos vs. Lufkin Panthers
Longview took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Friday. Everything went their way against the Lufkin Panthers as they made off with a 41-16 victory. The Lobos haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Longview to victory, but perhaps none more so than MASON WASHINGTON, who rushed for 68 yards and a pair of scores on only six carries. That's the most rushing yards WASHINGTON has posted since back in September of 2024. JOHNNY HAMILTON was another key player, rushing for 93 yards on only 11 carries.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Longview was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 267 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 188 rushing yards in four consecutive contests dating back to last season.
Longview and Lufkin should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. The Lobos will take on Marshall at 7:30 p.m. on Friday with a big rank advantage (20 vs. 90). Meanwhile, Lufkin (ranked 141st) will meet Nacogdoches (ranked 467th) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
