Football Recap: Maize South Mavericks vs. Derby Panthers
Maize South played a tough game on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were beaten by the Derby Panthers 70-28. The Mavericks have struggled against the Panthers recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.

Maize South's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Reign Illian, who threw for 474 yards and four touchdowns, and Braxton Liby, who picked up 154 receiving yards and three scores. The Mavericks are 3-1 when Illian posts 250 or more passing yards, but 1-2 otherwise. A healthy portion of Illian's aerial production (114 yards to be exact) also went to Pauly Reece, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.
Derby was led to victory by Blade Clark and Arieus Finley. Clark rushed for 173 yards and four TDs on only 12 carries, while Finley rushed for 206 yards and three scores on only 11 carries.
Maize South's defeat dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Derby, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 5-2.
Coming up, Maize South will square off against Hutchinson at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Derby, they will take on Bishop Carroll on Friday.
