Soccer Game Preview: Hempstead vs. Jefferson

Hempstead is 0-3 against Jefferson since May of 2017 but things could change on Friday. The Mustangs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Hawks at 4:15 p.m. Neither squad made it on the board the last time they hit the pitch, so they've probably got a bit of extra motivation.

Hempstead came into their game last Tuesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against Cedar Falls, falling 4-0. While losing is never fun, Hempstead can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Iowa soccer rankings (they are ranked 114th, while Cedar Falls are ranked 29th).

Meanwhile, it was a Battle of the Birds when Jefferson took on Wahlert on Tuesday. The Hawks fell just short of the Golden Eagles by a score of 1-0.

Jefferson has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-9-2 record this season. As for Hempstead, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-7.
