Softball Recap: Sprayberry Comes Up Short

Sprayberry was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They fell 5-2 to the Hillgrove Hawks. The Yellow Jackets were not able to make up for their defeat to the Hawks from their previous meeting back in August of 2020.

Graci Pederson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five runs (all of which were unearned) on five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Sprayberry saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Shona Bowen, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Sage Dorsey also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Sprayberry's loss dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Hillgrove, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 5-4.

Looking ahead, Sprayberry will be taking part in a tournament against North Cobb Christian at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Hillgrove, they will head out on the road to face off against Paulding County at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
