Baseball Recap: Marathon Takes a Loss

Marathon had lost three straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped down to 7-6 to make it four. They came up short against the McGraw Eagles, falling 14-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Olympians have suffered since April 24th.

As for McGraw, the victory (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 13-3. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won 13 games by seven runs or more so far this season.

For McGraw's part, Blair Mulcahy and Calob Sutton were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Mulcahy tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Sutton pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in ten consecutive appearances. At the plate, Mulcahy went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Sutton went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run.

In other batting news, McGraw got a massive performance out of Emory Sears, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave Sears a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Owen Mulcahy, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Marathon will welcome Newfield at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for McGraw, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Madison Central at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
