Softball Recap: Calhoun County Comes Up Short

Calhoun County extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 13 on Tuesday, dropping them down to 0-10. They lost 18-3 to the Pelham Hornets. The Cougars were not able to make up for their defeat to the Hornets from their previous meeting back in October of 2021.

As for Pelham, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 10-3. The result was nothing new for the Hornets, who have now won eight matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.

For Pelham's part, Alyssa Wiggins was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Wiggins has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mylaisha Almond, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in October of 2024. Chloe Willis was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Pelham beat Calhoun County by a score of 16-1 later that day.
