Softball Recap: Spalding Comes Up Short

Spalding extended their losing streak to four on Tuesday, dropping them down to 12-13. They lost 11-3 to the Troup County Tigers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Tigers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 9-3 back in August.

Spalding saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ra'Khiya Duffie, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

As for Troup County, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-14. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won nine contests by six runs or more so far this season.

On Troup County's side, Kennedy McCoy spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on four hits and racked up ten Ks. McCoy has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Troup County let Kaitlyn Smalley and Kaylee Cardwell run wild. Smalley went 1-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one double, while Cardwell went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and three runs. Those three runs gave Cardwell a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Hadley Johnston, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Spalding will take on Riverdale at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Troup County, they will host LaGrange at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
