Basketball Recap: Samueli Academy Takes a Loss

Samueli Academy suffered their biggest loss since January 3rd on Saturday. They were dealt a 53-26 defeat at the hands of the San Gabriel Academy Eagles. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Firewolves this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 46-33 last Thursday.

Despite the loss, Samueli Academy still got an impressive performance from Genavivie Medrano, who posted 18 points. That was a full 69.2% of Samueli Academy's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Kennedy Cortez was another key player, putting up eight points.

Samueli Academy has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-16 record this season. As for San Gabriel Academy, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-9.

Samueli Academy will challenge Capistrano Valley Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Capistrano Valley Christian's defense has only allowed 25.9 points per game this season, so Samueli Academy's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for San Gabriel Academy, they will take on The Webb Schools at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
