Basketball Recap: Tiana Washington Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Heritage

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Moreno Valley, Valley View was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They secured a 65-61 W over the Heritage Patriots. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Eagles' disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 302nd, while the Patriots are ranked 150th).

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Valley View to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tiana Washington, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 13 rebounds. That's the most boards Washington has posted since back in November of 2023. Another player making a difference was Mason Long, who went 9 of 18 on her way to 22 points and four steals.

Valley View was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Heritage only racked up seven assists.

Despite the loss, Heritage still got an impressive performance from Sierra Maxwell, who went 11 for 26 en route to 29 points in addition to seven rebounds and six steals. The contest was Maxwell's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tamia Jackson, who went 5 of 9 on her way to 13 points.

Valley View has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-11 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.8 points per game. As for Heritage, they dropped their record down to 16-7 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Valley View will take on Rancho Christian at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Heritage, they will welcome Moreno Valley at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
