Basketball Recap: Stone Ridge Christian Takes a Loss

After flying high against Delhi last Tuesday, Stone Ridge Christian came back down to earth. The Stone Ridge Christian Knights took a 61-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of the East Nicolaus Spartans on Friday. The Knights were down 54-27 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Despite the defeat, Stone Ridge Christian saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Bella Ewing posted 34 points and seven boards. That was a full 69.4% of Stone Ridge Christian's points, marking the 20th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Alyssa Fredricks was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with nine points and 11 rebounds.

East Nicolaus' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Makinze Massey, who went 8 for 12 on her way to 17 points and seven boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Rylee Gillespie, who went 5 of 10 to rack up 13 points and seven assists.

Stone Ridge Christian's loss dropped their record down to 11-9. As for East Nicolaus, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 15-11.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Stone Ridge Christian will square off against Le Grand at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for East Nicolaus, they will take on Paradise at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. East Nicolaus is facing Paradise at the right time seeing as Paradise is stuck on an 11-game losing streak.
