Football Recap: St. Anthony's Comes Up Short in High-Profile Contest with Iona Prep

St. Anthony faced Iona Prep in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Friars received a blow as they fell 50-36 to the Gaels. The Friars have struggled against the Gaels recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

St. Anthony's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Anthony Diieso, who rushed for 102 yards and one score on only 14 carries, and Xavier Bala, who rushed for 94 yards and three TDs.

Iona Prep's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Julian Guzman led the charge by throwing for 309 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 13.4 yards per attempt. Thanks to that big game, Guzman is now up to 16 passing touchdowns on the season. Joe Wolf also helped with three scores in total.

St. Anthony's defeat dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Iona Prep, their win was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-0.
