Baseball Recap: Devine Comes Up Short

Devine had lost four straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped down to 14-10 to make it five. They fell just short of the Pleasanton Eagles by a score of 4-3. The Warhorses / Arabians were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Eagles earlier this season, when they won 7-3.

Devine got a good showing from Brayden Mann, who pitched 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Mann has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Devine saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Christian Beaver, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases.

As for Pleasanton, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 16-7-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games.

On Pleasanton's side, the team relied heavily on Elijah Haren, who went 3-for-5 with one run and one RBI.

Coincidentally, Devine and Pleasanton will both be playing Somerset the next time they take the field. The Eagles will head out to face the Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Warhorses / Arabians will host them at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
