Softball Game Preview: Hicks Pirates vs. Rosepine Eagles

The Hicks Pirates are taking a road trip to face off against the Rosepine Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hicks will come into the matchup with an undefeated record on the line.

On Friday, Hicks earned a 4-1 win over Montgomery. The four-run effort marked the Pirates' lowest-scoring game of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Courtlyn Dousay spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up a single earned run in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jayde Wilbanks, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Peyton Lambright, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, Rosepine came up short against Notre Dame on Saturday, falling 19-8. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Rosepine saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Marli Jones25, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another was Marley Gregoire, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

Rosepine's defeat dropped their record down to 7-6. As for Hicks, their victory bumped their record up to 6-0.

Hicks was able to grind out a solid win over Rosepine when the teams last played back in March of 2025, winning 10-6. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Pirates since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
