Softball Game Preview: North Platte Panthers vs. Platte County Pirates

The North Platte Panthers are taking a road trip to challenge the Platte County Pirates at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. North Platte's pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so Platte County's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

North Platte proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by 11) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Lawson, sneaking past 5-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Panthers have posted since September 15th.

Kate Wolf spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on five hits and racked up 17 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Graci Williams, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Savannah Crook was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, Platte County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They took a 6-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of Kearney. Pirates fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against the Bulldogs since Thursday.

Platte County's loss dropped their record down to 3-7. As for North Platte, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-6.
