Football Recap: Bishop McNamara Takes a Loss

Bishop McNamara had lost five straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Saturday they dropped down to 2-3 to make it six. They were outmatched by the St. Edward Eagles and fell 57-19. The contest marked the Mustangs' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Bishop McNamara's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Alex Springs, who rushed for 128 yards on only six carries. Springs really tore up the turf during one magnificent 70-yard run. Kj Underwood was another key signal caller, throwing for 240 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 71.4% of his passes.

As for St. Edward, their record is now 5-1. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by 20 points or more this season.

St. Edward got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Zach Hackleman out in front who picked up 156 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Brandon White was in the mix too, providing the Eagles with two scores.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bishop McNamara will host Archbishop Carroll at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Mustangs will be up against the Lions' rather soft defense (which has allowed 27 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for St. Edward, they will take on St. Ignatius at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles will be up against the Wildcats' rather soft defense (which has allowed 31.8 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
