Matt Krumrie checks in with SAC's win streaks, Michael Floyd and three RB's who have over 1,000 yards rushing.

The Fab Five
1. Stephen-Argyle Central tied the state record for consecutive victories with a tough 15-0 win over No. 3-ranked Kittson-Central on Friday. The Storm, ranked No. 1 in the state in Nine-man, won for the 60th straight time, matching the previous record of Minneapolis Washburn (the Millers went 58-0-2 from 1966-72). SAC is 60-0 during its streak, with the last loss coming in the 2002 state semi-finals. The Storm can break the record in its final regular season game Nov. 16 when they play Northern Freeze at Newfoundland.
The Storm have scored over 40 points in five of their six games, and over 50 points once.
2. Michael Floyd plays every game facing double and triple teams. And while the Cretin-Derham Hall star may not lead the Twin Cities in receiving yards, he is a threat every time he is on the field. Floyd is currently fifth in the Twin Cities with 558 yards receiving. Teams plan to stop him, but sometimes the plan just doesn't work - like Friday. Floyd, a 6-4 senior who is the most sought after Minnesota collegiate prospect, had nine receptions for 194 yards and three touchdowns in a 55-17 Suburban East Conference win over White Bear Lake on Friday. Floyd now has 27 catches and eight touchdowns for the Raiders, ranked No. 2 in the state in Class 5A, and undefeated at 6-0.
3. The first to 1,000 yards: Three running backs went over the 1,000 yard mark on the season Friday. They are Mario Butler of Rochester Mayo (1,164 yards), Charlie Hrdlicka of United North Central (1,147 yards) and Andrew Fuller of Brooklyn Center.
Fuller got past the milestone mark with an amazing performance Friday. The junior ran 37 times for 324 yards and two touchdowns in a 31-28 win over St. Paul Academy.
Stephen Johnson of Mahtomedi (988 yards) and Isaac Uphus of Sauk Centre (964 yards) are closing in on 1,000 yards, and are fourth and fifth in the state in rushing yards.
4. Rock solid: Nathan Maher of Rockford has been a force on both sides of the ball for the 4-2 Rockets. His 101 tackles lead the state, and he has carried the ball 31 times for 331 yards and four touchdowns in six games. The 6-1, 200 pound senior averages over 10 yards per carry. He's had 20 tackles twice this season, and 16, 12, 12 and 18 tackles in the four other games.
5. Glencoe-Silver Lake, the defending Class 3A state champs, remained unbeaten with a tough 7-6 win over rival Delano in Wright County Conference action Friday. The only touchdown of the game for the Panthers came early in the second quarter when Chad Pierson caught a 60-yard touchdown pass from Matt Muenchow. GSL (6-0) is currently ranked No. 1 in the state in Class 3A and is alone in first place in the Wright County Conference heading into the final two games of the regular season. GSL hosts Annandale Friday, and closes the regular season against Watertown-Mayer, two teams that have a combined win-loss record of 2-8.
Three Things To Watch:
- Classic Suburban Conference race: With two games remaining, Mahtomedi and Simley are tied at 5-1 in the Classic Suburban Conference race. The two teams play each other to close out the regular season Oct. 17. St. Thomas Academy, 4-1 in conference action, 5-1 overall, has two more conference games remaining and is still in title contention.
- Classic Lake title chase: It's a two team chase with one conference game remaining. Edina and Wayzata are both 3-0 in Classic Lake Conference action. Both teams have non-conference games this week - Edina at Stillwater, Wayzata hosting Burnsville - before they face each other for the conference title Oct. 17 when the Hornets of Edina host the Trojans of Wayzata.
- Will the two big school powers meet? Top-ranked and defending Class 5A state champ is rolling along this season, undefeated at 6-0. The Eagles and Cretin, also 6-0, are ranked 1-2 in every state poll. If the two teams are to meet this season it will be with a lot on the line, because it will be in the Prep Bowl for the state big school title.
Two hot too handle
- Dee Broadnax, Buffalo: Broadnax scored four touchdowns in Buffalo's 35-28 win over Rogers Friday. He ran 16 times for 205 yards and had touchdown runs of 22, 10, 49 and 71 yards in the win. Broadnax has 665 yards rushing on the season, while Jake Duske leads the team with 669 yards rushing for the 4-2 Bison.
- Blake Cook, Fridley: The senior had a hand in six touchdowns Friday in a 39-21 win over St. Francis. Cook, a quarterback, ran for touchdowns of 1, 43, 48 and eight yards, and threw touchdown passes of 33 and nine yards for 5-1 Fridley.
Inside the numbers
1,414 - The number of yards St. Paul Academy's Evan McMillan has passed for this season.
212 - The number of attempts by McMillan. He has completed 109 of those passes and has 13 interceptions and ten touchdowns.
36 - The number of consecutive years Hutchinson has had a winning season in football. That was assured again this year when the Tigers defeated Prior Lake 41-6 to improve to 5-1 on the season.
12 - The number of sacks Northfield's Cole Jirik has, which leads the state.
7 - The number of interceptions Mounds View's Andrew Van Epps has this season, which leads the state.
