Preview: Washington Huskies vs. Newark Memorial Cougars

Washington is 2-8 against Newark Memorial since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Washington Huskies will be playing at home against the Newark Memorial Cougars at 7:00 p.m. Washington is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak.

Last Saturday, Washington came up short against Irvington and fell 58-46. While losing is never fun, Washington can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 463rd, while Irvington is ranked 220th).

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Nia Owens, who scored 13 points along with two blocks. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Zariyah Hughes, who scored ten points along with nine rebounds and two steals.

In what's become a running theme this season, Newark Memorial gave their fans yet another huge win on Monday. They claimed a resounding 65-18 victory over Livermore at home. The win was just what Newark Memorial needed coming off of a 61-31 loss in their prior game.

Newark Memorial relied on the efforts of Sydney Scott, who scored 13 points, and Angelina Baca, who scored 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Juliana Barbosa, who scored ten points.

Washington has not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-6 record this season. As for Newark Memorial, their victory ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-10.

Washington came up short against Newark Memorial in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, falling 69-56. Can Washington avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
