Basketball Game Preview: Downtown Magnets Suns vs. USC-MAE Trojans

The Downtown Magnets Suns are taking a road trip to take on the USC-MAE Trojans at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Downtown Magnets hasn't scored more than 15 points for seven games straight, a trend the team is eager to reverse.

It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 54-8, which was the final score in Downtown Magnets' tilt against Annenberg on Monday. While losing is never fun, the Suns can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1239th, while the Panthers are ranked 259th).

Despite their defeat, Downtown Magnets saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Rachael Lee, who posted six points and seven steals, was perhaps the best of all. Lee is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last four games she's played.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for USC-MAE, who bounced back after a loss on the road back in December of 2024. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Orthopaedic 21-18. The win was some much needed relief for the Trojans as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

USC-MAE's victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-4. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 14.0 points per game. As for Downtown Magnets, their loss dropped their record down to 0-7.

Downtown Magnets suffered a grim 35-14 defeat to USC-MAE in their previous meeting back in January of 2024. Can Downtown Magnets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
