Baseball Recap: Howards Grove's Luck Changes for the Better on Thursday

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Howards Grove ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Ozaukee Warriors 9-8. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Tigers as it put an end to their 15-game losing streak.

Tyson Kunesh made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with four runs and one stolen base. Howards Grove is 2-1 when Kunesh posts two or more runs, but 1-15 otherwise.

In other batting news, Matt Koenig was incredible, going 3-for-5 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted over his last ten matchups. The team also got some help courtesy of Nolan Wilson, who went 3-for-5 with three RBI.

Howards Grove was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .389. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ozaukee only posted a batting average of .257.

Howards Grove's win bumped their record up to 3-16. As for Ozaukee, their loss dropped their record down to 3-15.

Howards Grove wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 13-9 defeat against Oostburg on the 15th. As for Ozaukee, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 14-6 loss against Roncalli on the 15th.
