Preview: Bonita Bearcats vs. Glendora Tartans
Bonita has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Glendora Tartans at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Friday, Bonita beat Claremont 39-26.
Among those leading the charge was Naomi Acuna, who scored 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lexi Mercado, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
In what's become a running theme this season, Glendora gave their fans yet another huge victory on Friday. They claimed a resounding 79-23 victory over Colony on the road. Given Glendora's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 43rd, while Colony is ranked 522nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Glendora can attribute much of their success to Brianna Gomez, who scored 26 points along with six steals, and Rylie Anderson, who scored 19 points along with eight rebounds and seven steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Gomez has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Ronnie Herrmann, who scored ten points along with six steals and five assists.
Bonita pushed their record up to 14-6 with that victory, which was their third straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.0 points per game. As for Glendora, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 19-2.
This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Bonita hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 51.3 points per game. It's a different story for Glendora, though, as they've been averaging only 62.3 points per game. The only thing between Bonita and another offensive beatdown is Glendora. Will they be able to keep them contained?
Bonita didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Glendora when the teams last played back in January of 2023, but they still walked away with a 46-40 win. Does Bonita have another victory up their sleeve, or will Glendora turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
