Basketball Recap: Desert Hot Springs Comes Up Short

If Desert Hot Springs was riding high fresh off their 66-11 takedown of Desert Mirage last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Desert Hot Springs Golden Eagles took a 46-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Banning Broncos. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Golden Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 37-32 last Tuesday.

It was another big night for Nylea Smith, who almost dropped a double-double on 24 points and nine rebounds for Banning. Those 24 points gave Smith a new career-high. Maria Raygoza was another key player, putting up six points and six boards.

Desert Hot Springs' defeat dropped their record down to 5-11. As for Banning, they have been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season.

Desert Hot Springs has already played their next game (against Cathedral City), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Banning is taking a road trip to square off against Desert Mirage at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Desert Mirage has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the contest with 15 straight losses, while Banning will come in with four straight wins.
