Football Game Preview: Big Spring Steers vs. Kermit Yellow Jackets

The Big Spring Steers will head out to face off against the Kermit Yellow Jackets at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Big Spring has given up an average of 29.2 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Big Spring is likely headed into the contest with a focus on the second half, which is when things went downhill against Fort Stockton on Friday. The Steers came up short against the Panthers, falling 42-21. The Steers were up 21-7 in the first quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Kermit). They took their matchup last Friday with ease, bagging a 54-0 victory over Van Horn. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Yellow Jackets considering their 13-point performance the game before.

Big Spring better keep an eye on Aalijah Navarrette. He was instrumental in Kermit's win, rushing for 159 yards and three TDs on only five carries, while also throwing for 101 yards and one touchdown. Navarrette really tore up the turf during one magnificent 74-yard run. 89 of Navarrette's passing yards were hauled in by Julian Chavez, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

Kermit was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 320 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

The loss was their first at home , dropping their record down to 3-2-1. As for Kermit, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-4.

Everything came up roses for Big Spring against Kermit in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 49-20 victory. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was the Yellow Jackets' Armando Urias, who picked up 179 receiving yards and one score.
