North Dakota commit led Spuds to 7-0 record in pandemic-shortened season.

Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school football. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2020 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence, in addition to local and state accolades.

Trey Feeney of Moorhead is the 2020 MaxPreps Minnesota High School Football Player of the Year. The 6-foot-2, 195-pound senior quarterback threw for 1,973 yards and a state-best 36 touchdowns in leading the Spuds to a 7-0 recording during the pandemic-shortened season.

Feeney's final game as the signal caller at Moorhead is the stuff of legend, accounting for nine touchdowns in a 63-7 win over Alexandria. He completed 27 of 38 passes for 372 and seven touchdowns while running for two more.

The Moorhead offense was a productive outfit all season with Feeney under center as the Spuds averaged 44.7 points per game.

As a junior, Feeney passed for 2,968 yards and 29 touchdowns as Moorhead reached the Class 5A quarterfinals.

Feeney will continue his football career next year at the University of North Dakota.

Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team, which will be released Jan. 29.
