Basketball Recap: Shafter Skates Past Delano with Ease

Shafter had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They breezed by the Delano Tigers to the tune of 68-13. That looming 68-13 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Generals yet this season.

Leading Shafter to victory were Isela Lugo and Alexia Ramirez. Lugo went 10 for 18 on her way to 24 points in addition to six boards and three steals, while Ramirez dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten boards. The dominant performance also gave Lugo a new career-high in assists (four). Another player making a difference was Kyla Schooley, who posted ten points in addition to six rebounds and four steals.

Shafter was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Shafter is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.8 points per game. As for Delano, they dropped their record down to 2-7 with the loss, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Shafter will challenge Taft at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Delano, they will face off against Wasco at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
