Football Recap: Russell Takes a Loss

After flying high against Larned last Friday, Russell came back down to earth. The Broncos and the Phillipsburg Panthers were almost perfectly matched up on Friday, but the Broncos suffered a 29-28 loss. The Broncos lost against the Panthers in their previous head to head back in October of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 34-7 score last time.

Several Broncos players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Trey Zorn, who threw for 347 yards and two TDs while picking up 10.8 yards per attempt. Sam Thielen also helped out as he racked up 103 receiving yards.

Having lost for the first time this season, Russell fell to 4-1. As for Phillipsburg, their win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 3-2.

Russell wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 46-14 victory against Norton on the 10th. As for Phillipsburg, they have also already played their next matchup, a 62-34 defeat against Pratt on the 10th.
