Softball Recap: St. Pius X Catholic Starts Season with Win at Home

St. Pius X Catholic took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Riverwood Raiders with a sharp 10-2 win. For the Golden Lions, this counts as revenge for the 8-6 victory the Raiders walked away with the last time they faced one another back in August of 2024.

Maggie Laba tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ella Hall, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Merrit Gorman was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

Riverwood's loss dropped their record down to 1-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. Pius X Catholic will face off against Prince Avenue Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Riverwood, they will host Cambridge at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
