Football Recap: Simi Valley Piles Up the Points Against Camarillo

There's no place like home for Simi Valley, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They blew past the Camarillo Scorpions 54-0 on Friday. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Pioneers' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 97th, while the Scorpions are ranked 285th).

Simi Valley found their leader in sophomore Jayden Clarke, who made four total tackles and defended four passes in addition to snagging three interceptionstwo of which were returned for touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Dawson Armstrong, who rushed for 28 yards and one score.

Simi Valley's defense made their presence known, laying out Brad Barlow eight times. The heavy lifting was done by Izak Simpson and Ryan Schlundt Bodien, who racked up five sacks between them. Simpson has become a key player for Simi Valley: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two sacks, but 1-3 otherwise. The Pioneers got some further help from Clarke: he made four total tackles and defended four passes in addition to snagging three interceptionstwo of which were returned for touchdowns.

Special teams played a big role in the game for Simi Valley, adding 18 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Quentin McGahan, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.

Simi Valley has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 3-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 46.0 points over those games. As for Camarillo, their loss was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-5.
