Basketball Recap: Genavivie Medrano's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Samueli Academy over San Gabriel Academy

On Thursday, the Samueli Academy Firewolves came up short against the San Gabriel Academy Eagles and fell 46-33.

Samueli Academy lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Genavivie Medrano, who posted 13 points. That was a full 39.4% of Samueli Academy's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Kennedy Cortez was another key player, putting up nine points.

Samueli Academy has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-15 record this season. As for San Gabriel Academy, their victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 4-9.

While Samueli Academy had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday.
