Football Recap: St. Marys Comes Up Short

St. Marys extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 3-5. They came up short against the Sabetha Bluejays, falling 28-6. The Bears were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bluejays apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.

Lane Smith threw for 152 yards on 12 of 27 attempts. Killian McCann was his top target, picking up 73 receiving yards. On the ground, Korleone Holz rushed for 72 yards and one TD on only ten carries.

As for Sabetha, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-1. The result was nothing new for the Bluejays, who have now won four games by 22 points or more so far this season.

It was another big night for Will Voos, who rushed for 224 yards and a pair of scores while picking up 10.7 yards per carry. His longest rush was for an incredible 87 yards.

St. Marys and Sabetha are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Bears will challenge Silver Lake on Friday. As for Sabetha, they will square off against Humboldt at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Cubs will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each matchup than the last.
