Softball Recap: Skutt Catholic Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

Skutt Catholic and Beatrice squared off in some playoff action on Wednesday, but Skutt Catholic had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Orangemen by a score of 10-9. The SkyHawks' loss signaled the end of their 13-game winning streak.

Isa Torrez got Skutt Catholic off to a strong start despite the final result, pitching 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Torrez has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Avery Wilson made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Kira Stroh, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs.

Skutt Catholic's defeat dropped their record down to 26-6. As for Beatrice, the victory (which was their 23rd in a row) raised their record to 31-4.

Skutt Catholic wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, an 8-1 win against Norris on the 16th. As for Beatrice, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 16-8 victory against Waverly on the 16th.
