Softball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Coffee

Coffee had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Houston County Bears a 1-0 shutout. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 5-2 on Tuesday.

Maggie Brown made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI. Those two hits gave her a new career-high.

Brown wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jocelyn Fender, who went 1-for-3 with one triple. That triple was Fender's first of the season.

Coffee's record is now 7-3. As for Houston County, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-5-1.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Bears beat Coffee by a score of 4-1 later that day.
