Baseball Recap: Walnut Grove's Victory on Wednesday Extends Winning Streak to Five

Walnut Grove posted their closest win since April 16, 2024 on Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 10-8 victory over the Chestatee War Eagles. For the Warriors, this counts as revenge for the 3-1 win the War Eagles walked away with the last time they faced one another back in March of 2024.

Jarrod Cook made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in two of his five plate appearances.

In other batting news, Walnut Grove got a big performance out of Cade Riffle, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. Brayden Kelly was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

The victory was the fifth in a row for Walnut Grove, bringing their record for this year to 7-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Chestatee, they dropped their record down to 1-7 with the defeat, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Walnut Grove will square off against Oconee County at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Chestatee, they will challenge McEachern at 5:55 p.m. on Thursday. The last five games Chestatee has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
