Softball Recap: Lincoln Northeast Rockets vs. Gretna Dragons

Lincoln Northeast had lost six straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped down to 12-23 to make it seven. They came up short against the Gretna Dragons, falling 12-2. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Rockets of the 10-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in September of 2023.

As for Gretna, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record up to 24-6. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.1 runs over those games.

For Gretna's part, they got a great performance from Taelyn Rupiper as she struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Rupiper has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Maddie Kurrus was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. She has been hot recently, having posted three or more RBI the last three times she's played. Megan Marshall was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs.

As of now, neither Lincoln Northeast nor Gretna have any future games scheduled.
