Basketball Recap: Kayla Lumas' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Oxnard over Buena

Oxnard has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They took a 56-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Buena Bulldogs on Thursday. The Yellowjackets were not able to make up for their loss to the Bulldogs from their previous meeting back in January.

Oxnard lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Kayla Lumas, who posted 15 points along with seven boards and five assists. That's the most assists Lumas has posted since back in January. Sofia Salgado was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on nine points and 11 boards.

Oxnard's defeat dropped their record down to 7-4. As for Buena, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-1.

Oxnard and Buena should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. Oxnard (ranked 152nd) will meet San Marcos (ranked 439th) at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Similarly, Buena (ranked 41st) will meet Santa Barbara (ranked 924th) at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
